Sweet sixteen, have you ever…..

16 balloonBeing sixteen, in resonse to today’s Daily Prompt.
[to the tune of ‘have you ever…?’]

Have you ever seen a sixteen, a sixteen, sweet sixteen,
Have you ever seen a sixteen year old girl give up?
She’s tired and weary, she’ll cry and she’ll hate things,
If you’ve ever see a sixteen year old girl give up.

If you see one can you tell her, I ask you, please tell her,
If you see one can you tell her that she’s as brave as can be.
It’s scary and frightening, she hates it, she’s hurting,
But if you see one can you tell her she’s brave as can be.

Adults say that she’s so lucky, so lucky, so lucky,
Adults say that she’s so lucky to still be sixteen.
She knows it’s supposed to be perfect, idyllic,
But she doesn’t feel so lucky to still be sixteen.

It’s so hard being yourself, she’s herself, just herself,
It’s so hard being yourself when you’re just sixteen.
There’s so much to test you and judge you and trick you,
It’s so hard being yourself when you’re just sixteen.

But each day she goes there, walks back in, turns up there,
And each day she goes, she’s not letting them win.
They’re bullies and nasty and evil and mean,
And each day she goes, she’s not letting them win.

Because she’s bound to be something, have something, see something,
Because she’s bound to be something that they’d love to be.
She’s pretty and clever and bright and she’s friendly,
That’s why they’re all like that, because they’d love to be.

But one day she’ll leave there, she’ll leave it, she’ll move on
For one day she’ll leave there and finally be free.
Her life will be better, rewarding, exciting,
For one day she’ll leave there and finally be free.

She’ll be free from the judgements, the cruelty, the meanness,
She’ll be free from the judgements that have made her give up.
The bitching and moaning and sniggering and pointing,
She’ll be free from the judgements that have made her give up.

And they will still be there, still be there, still be there,
And they will still be there because bullies don’t change.
They may move or travel, more study or might work,
But they will still be stuck there because bullies don’t change.
